178 Learning Websites and free resources for Preschool – 12th grade

Life around us is quickly changing. As parents we have quickly changed to teacher and parent. I am passing on to you websites geared towards grades preschool-12th grade. And adults too! Here we are practicing social distancing to help prevent the spread of covid-19 and ensure our health and to the people around us. I hope everyone is safe and in good health! Below is a very long…(sorry) but very helpful list of websites to help your at home learning. These websites can be used to do lessons, team up with the lessons given by your child’s teacher, give them (and You) a break, get them out of the funk from learning at home, explore new and fun learning! Look at the ones that will interest your child(ren) and pass along these resources to friends and family around you! Just a reminder: We are all in this together, we will get through this, and reach out to people around you through a simple text, call, FaceTime. If you have any questions reach out to me @spoonfulofsugarbaker on Instagram!

Concha (Pan dulce) Recipe

Quarantine has got me going un poco Loco!!!.. ok I had to LOL! Here is the most requested recipe!! Please read💖 also tag me if you try this!

I love conchas and was so excited to try to make these. It took a few tries to get the perfect airy, soft, bread. So let me tell you BREAD FlOUR is a must!!! With regular flour they are still delicious but more dense like. So depending on the texture of the bread you like but I highly recommend using bread flour for these!! ****See notes below how to turn your flour into bread flour

No long stories here we are jumping straight into the ingredients and directions on this one. With any bread or recipes with yeast don’t rush the rest time on your dough. Letting it rest for 1-2 hours is definitely with the wait!

  • 2 ½ teaspoons yeast
  • ½ cup warm water
  • 1 tablespoon white sugar
  • ½ cup evaporated milk
  • 1/4 cup white sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ⅓ cup butter, melted
  • 1 xl large egg or 1 large egg plus one egg yolk
  • 4 cups bread flour
  • 2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 tsp vanilla

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, at room temperature
  • 2/3 cup white granulated sugar
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon cocoa powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon evaporated milk if needed

Concha Dough Directions:

1. Add yeast and 1 tablespoon of sugar to a mixing bowl. Next add in warm water and gently stir. Let it sit for 7 mins. It should be foamy and bubbly after the 7 mins. If not this step needs to be redone.

2. Once your yeast mixture is ready add in 1/4 cup sugar, evaporated milk, vanilla, cinnamon, egg, melted butter. Stir with a spatula to break up the yolk. Next add in bread flour one cup at a time. If you are using a stand mixer add on dough hook and add remaining bread flour and salt.

3. With the stand mixer hook attachment on mix on medium for 5 mins. (If you are not using a stand mixer mix ingredients 5 mins and then knead the concha dough on a floured surface 5-10 mins.) Dough should be soft and elastic.

4. In a clean bowl spray with cooking oil, add in dough, and cover with a clean kitchen towel or plastic wrap for 1-2 hours. Dough will double in size.

Dough is ready to sleep! Cover and be patient!

5. While dough is rising make the topping! See instructions below!!

Topping recipe:

  • In the bowl of stand-up mixer with the paddle attachment or by hand if needed, add the butter, sugar, flour and vanilla extract. Mix until smooth, about 1-2 mins add 1/4 teaspoon of evaporated milk if needed.
  • Divide the topping in two. To one part of the topping, add a drop of food coloring gel like pink or any color you’d like. To the other topping, add the cocoa powder and mix until it’s like a dry paste.

6. Dough is now ready. Line cookie sheet with parchment paper or grease cookie sheet. Divide into 12 pieces for 12 large conchas or 24 mini ones. I love the mini size and of course making them Mickey shape by doing a large and two small for the ears.

7. Add conchas 1 1/2- 2 inches apart on a cookie sheet. Using a tablespoon of topping for each concha. Form a ball flatten thin in your hand by pressing down and then place on concha. Repeat till all are covered with the topping. Use a pearling knife to cut the shell lines through or design you’d like.

8. Cover and allow to rest an additional 30 mins.

9. Once they done resting uncover and place in over at 350 degrees for 15-20 mins till light golden brown. Allow to cool and place on a cake platter with cover once cooled or plastic container. These will stay good for 3 days up to a week.

Seriously deliciously amazing!!!! Topping on these is my favorite!!! Now if you use regular all purpose flour this will be dense but still none the less great flavor! Perfect with my coffee and a snack for the kids💖 Enjoy!!!

If you bake these please tag me on Instagram @spoonfulofsugarbaker

*****Notes: I didn’t try this but I looked up bread flour substitute and this is what I found. Since it may be hard to find right now here is an alternative.

I hope everyone is safe and healthy! And happy baking!!!!

Beignets- Disneyland copycat recipe (vegan/dairy free friendly)

Celebrating Madri Gras with the Famous Disney Beignets but with a dairy free/Vegan option! Yes, that’s right! I replaced all the dairy with vegan/dairy free and added a egg substitute if you need it! Tested and approved and if your like me beignets are one of my favorite snacks at Disneyland! This recipe makes a LOT! like 500 man-catching beignets!! So if you’d like 1/2 the recipe or have 3 dozen mickey sized beignets or several dozen mini squares its totally up to you! I included a affiliate links to the Mickey cookie cutter I used to make these beignets.

(If you are not vegan or dairy free you can use eggs and cows milk in replacement but I wanted to make a vegan recipe since I was visiting my vegan cousin when I made these and because I love using dairy free recipes lately! Vegetarian option too if you eat eggs!)

So here they are!! Vegan/Dairy free Beignets:

  • 1 1/2 cups lukewarm water
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 envelope active dry yeast
  • vegan egg replacement – 2 teaspoon baking, 2 tablespoons vinegar OR for vegetarian/non vegan- 2 eggs, slightly beaten
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup coconut milk (any non dairy should work. I used coconut which was on hand)
  • 7 cups flour
  • 1/4 cup vegtable shortening
  • crisco vegtable shortening for frying
  • 3 cups powdered sugar

1. Mix lukewarm water, sugar, and yeast in a large plastic bowl and let sit for 10 minutes.

2. In another bowl, if you are doing vegan add your egg replacement OR eggs and beat, add salt and coconut milk (or dairy free milk) together. Add mixture to the yeast mixture. In a separate bowl, measure out the flour. Add 3 cups of the flour to the yeast mixture and stir. Add the shortening and continue to stir while adding the last of the flour. Remove dough from the bowl, place onto a lightly floured surface and knead about 20 times. Put dough into the bowl and cover with plastic. Let rise in a warm place for at least 2 hours.

Our Hojo Getaway : information and review

Our Family finally got to visit the Howard Johnson Anaheim Hotel and Water Play ground. We were excited for many reasons… Water playground, walking distance to Disneyland, and because we love lil getaways! This place didn’t disappoint. Im going to share my Top 5 favorite things about the HOJO hotel along with what comes along with your stay!

TOP 5 Reasons to stay at the HOJO Hotel

  1. WATER PLAYGROUD- The Castaway Water Cove was so much fun! Lots of areas for kids to play in. My kids are 5 and 1 years old and both really enjoyed this play area! The water playground has water slides, climbing area, and giant water bucket to add in even more fun! There is also a heated shallow kiddy pool! Yes heated! So this was a perfect for my 1 year old. Even my 5 year old daughter relaxed here with us and really enjoyed it! This area has plenty of seating, umbrellas, and towels to use. There is Life guard on duty to help supervise children. Their is also restroom at the water playground area.
  2. Walking Distance to Disneyland- it is only a 8 min walk give or take from the hotel to Disneyland! Also lots of food places on the way like Mimis cafe, mc Donalds, Panera bread, and ihop. So you can also eat on the way to Disney or heading back to the Hojo. There is also a shuttle that can take you to and from Disney but for myself with a double stroller and all the stuff I bring it is much easier to walk!
  3. The rooms!- we stayed in building 1 which is all renovated. Building 2 will be be finished in April. Be sure to indicate you would like to stay in a newly renovated room if you’d like one in the photo below. The room was very clean, bathroom best lighting ever! The beds were very comfortable!! We slept in on our stay! It was that good. Plus the room includes wifi, a mini fridge, keriug coffee machine, and a microwave! suites and Disney themed rooms include a rubber ducky for you to take home. Our room had a balcony facing Disneyland with a firework view.
  4. Great Customer Service- Throughout our stay we experienced great customer service! the front desk and staff were all extremely helpful and nice! front desk helped me get everything from the car and were very personable. during the stay we felt very welcomed and even the Main Street store in building one had the sweetest staff.
  5. amenities for kids!- along with the water playground as a parent I loved the “if lost tattoos”, complimentary face painting held on Saturdays, and the big orange lawn chair .

We enjoyed our stay and definitely want to return for another stay this Summer!I’m including a link to the Howard Johnson Anaheim and Water Playground to check our rooms and reserve your next stay! I also have a coupon code to use on your reservation!!!!
20% off Disneyland Annual Passholder Discount – Corp code:

Disney Inspired conversational Hearts DIY

Every year I do Valentine’s pre-orders…and every time I get asked if I ship my products. A conversational heart cookie made even better with a Disney twist. These are available to order or a great baking project at home!! This recipe is easy to follow and super cute!

Here is a list of supplies you’ll need:

  • Heart cookie cutter
  • Mickey cookie cutter (optional)
  • Parchment paper
  • Rolling pin
  • Cookie sheet
  • Piping bags
  • Cookie & royal icing ingredients

  • 1 cup butter, room temperature
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 3 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt

Cream together butter and sugar. Scrape sides of bowl to be sure all butter and sugar is mixed well. Add egg and vanilla and mix. Add flour one cup at a time to butter mixture. Add salt & mix together. Cover and refrigerate 1 hour. Roll out dough and cut out cookie shapes. Cut parchment paper & add to cookie sheet. Place cut dough onto the cookie sheet. Bake for 8-12 minutes at 350 degrees.

Royal icing

  • 3 tablespoons meringue powder
  • 4 cups of sifted powdered sugar
  • 6 tablespoons warm water

Add meringue & powdered sugar (powdered sugar must be sifted) it will give you smooth royal icing. Add hot water one tablespoon at time. Mix on medium-high for 5 mins. Distribute equal amounts of royal icing to smaller bowls. Add in food coloring and mix well. If needed and extra water.

Add royal icing to pining bags and cut a small opening at the tip.

create a dam by outlining your cookie. Then fill with your royal icing after a few minutes. This helps royal icing from dripping from the edges.

Let the cookies set before adding words to it. Usually a 1-3 hours is best.

Use a #1 tip to your piping bag and write your messages on your cookies!

Lunar New Year activities for kids

It’s the year of the mouse! Well the rat but what a better way to celebrate then here at the parks. Now until February 9th! I love that DCA is giving recognition and honoring cultural traditions with us. My children loved this event. We spent the entire afternoon exploring and learning new things. My favorite was the wishing wall! From people all around the world their wishes are tied to a chain and it was amazing to see in person! If you make it to this event tag me in your stories with your favorite marketplace foods & favorite things about this event!

I put a list fun activities going on during the Lunar Year at Disney California Adventure!

1. Mulan’s Lunar New Year Procession

11:45 AM, 1:00 PM, 2:45 PM @paradise garden park

This is a must the story, dances, and costumes were all so beautiful and amazing. If you want sit there is seating along the stairs or benches. The parade comes through the paradise garden grill before making its way to the stage. If you like to get pictures like me. London loved this show and it help Antonio‘s attention during the whole show.

2. Paradise Garden Bandstand

12:15 PM, 1:25 PM, 2:20 PM

Located at the stage at Paradise garden grill. Enjoy the cultural music. Get some energy out here for kids. We talked about music around the world before catching this 25 min show. My son loves to move so it was great to get some wiggles out and sit and relax.

3. Hurry Home – Lunar New Year Celebration

8:15pm or 9:45

We didn’t make it to this one. But with the rest of the great effort and detail I imagine a wonderful show where world of color is held. Check app times for this one. It’s a 6 min show so grab a snack and head over to the Hurry Home water show!

4. Character meet and greets

Meet Mickey, Minnie, Mulan, or mushu at paradise garden grill area. Check the app time on this one. To check on the app it’s very easy. Select characters, and show list to see what times they are available. Mickey and Minnie are dressed in the most beautiful outfits. Mulan looks amazing and mushu was so up beat and funny. This line gets long. So if the line is long have some activities ready. We played eye spy and did some letter games to help time pass and my youngest I had snacks in hand for him when he started to get restless.

5. Lunar New Year Marketplaces

Once you enter the lunar even area there is different food stands. We tried a few and loved the mandarin green tea tart and pork bao taco! So many great options. And on the plus side your able to mobile order and pick up at the location. Mobile ordering is available on the Disneyland app. Also if you are interested there is a:

Sip & savor pass your able to enjoy 6 yummy dishes for only $42

Located near the ariel ride!

My ratings : taco 10/10 the hot dog bun to me was very cute but 7/10 my kids loved it! 10/10 for Antonio

The tart was delicious 10/10 and would try this again!

6. Lucky wishing wall- located near paradise garden grill

This is amazing just to see. All the wishes tied together is so beautiful! There is Mickey cards that you can write your wish on and ties to attach them. We each had our wish my daughter loved doing this.
In this area there was also a calligraphy artist with Chinese writing. We missed this one but I definitely want to come back to have London get one.

7. Kids coloring activities located along side the little mermaid ride.

London loves coloring and Antonio enjoyed this here. He danced to the music of the procession while coloring. There was adorable Mickey fans they colored that we used for the rest of the day.

Face painting is also available for $18 here by the ariel ride

Overall this event is a must. I was able to do a lot and the kids really enjoyed it all. Check it out you have until February 9th here at DCA!! Tons of merch too located in front of the ariel ride! Must see!!

What is something you look forward to when you visit? Or if you have gone which is your favorite part of this event?

Disney Copycat Gingerbread cookie recipe

It’s 17 days till Christmas! What??!! I love Christmas time! I’m here for the lights, shopping, parties, food, family time, and baking! Soaking in all the family memories. It go’s by in a flash!!!

This recipe is a copycat to Disneyland’s mickey gingerbread cookie! It’s soft and chewy. Perfect ginger and molasses flavor! And gives and the Christmas feels! My kitchen smells so good!

There’s a few important steps highlighted in the image below. This was through a lot of trial and error so follow instructions to get them not to spread or stick to your roller. Cookie cutters 5 inch cooked at 8-9 mins so smaller cutters will need less time.

  • 3 cups flour
  • 3/4 cups packed brown sugar
  • 3/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 tablespoon cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon ginger
  • 2 teaspoons ground cloves
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 12 tablespoons butter, softened to room temperature (not melted)
  • 3/4 cup molasses
  • 2 tablespoon milk (almond milk or soy is fine too)

Have an egg allergy this is a great option since the recipe calls for no eggs.

  1. With mixer, stir together flour, brown sugar, baking soda, cinnamon, ginger, cloves, salt on low speed. Stop mixer and add butter. I cut into pieces instead throwing it all in. Mix at medium low for 1-2 minutes. Reduce speed to low and add molasses and milk; mix until dough is evenly moistened about 30 seconds. Increase speed for additional 10 seconds.
  2. Scrape dough from bowl onto parchment paper and wrap it with Saran Wrap. I also place this in a ziplock bag once it’s wrapped. Refrigerate at least 2 hours or up to over night. THIS IS AN IMPORTANT STEP! This dough is best is chilled. It will spread if they are not chilled. And much easier to work with too.
  3. Preheat over to 350 degrees. Line cookie sheet with parchment paper.
  4. Rough dough onto parchment. I do this in sections at a time. Cut dough with cookie cutters and add to sheet about a inch apart.
  5. Bake cookies 8-9 minutes. Important not to over bake these to get soft and chewy cookies. Cool cookies on lan for 2 mins.
  6. Store in a airtight container or ziplock and ENJOY!

Some tips: If your dough sticks it’s ok add a tiny bit of flour to your rolling pin. All you need is a little bit. Also keep working with it.

Here is photo of the recipe!! (Screenshot or print) Tag me in your cookie photos! I’d love to see your family cookie creations!! Tag at @spoonfulofsugarbaker on Instagram!

Disneyland Balloon is a must on your vacation! My 5 reasons Why…

Disney Balloons are the best little souvenir on your next family vacation!!! Now if your a passholder I get it!!! My daughter used to ask for a balloon every time. Its tradition to get one for her birthday. It makes a Birthday extra magical and perfect for a family vacation! Here are my top 5 reasons to grab a balloon on your next family trip!

  1. Grab a balloon on your next family vacation! I’m a sucker for matching shirts to spot one another but a balloon you can spot a family member from a distance. You won’t regret this when you get distracted by a character and then look ahead and see that mickey balloon your niece just got!!
  2. Stroller spotter. Yess park your stroller to get on a few rides.. now there’s a million strollers lined up.. ok an exaggeration but yours will definitely stand out of the crowd. Also great distraction for a you g child in a stroller to!!
  3. Return policy! Yes!!! you can return a damaged, deflated or popped ballon on your family trip.. and it’s free! Just take it to any cast member with balloons and get a new one. So don’t worry if during your hotel stay it begins to deflate..you can just take it back for a brand new one🙌🏻
  4. Picture opportunity! Disney pictures are magical. You can capture joy, excitement, happiness.. the list goes on. Sharing your family milestones, memories at the Disneyland park is so special. My favorite is to Announce your babies gender with a blue or pink balloon. Get a ballon pic for your birthday, Engagement, anniversary, best friend trip. Getting creative to make an announcement is so much fun!
  5. These balloons last…I think that’s why they have a free return policy because they last way beyond your trip.. weeks even months. What a pleasant reminder of a great trip.

What’s your must have on your Disneyland or disneyworld vacation?
